Walmart is laying off approximately 1,500 corporate employees across various departments at its home office in Bentonville, Arkansas, according to multiple reports. The layoffs are part of the company’s efforts to modernize its business and enhance experiences for associates, customers, and members.

    Reshaping Teams for Business Growth

In a memo shared with associates on May 21, Walmart executives explained that the company is “reshaping” teams to align with business priorities and growth strategies. “We are eliminating roles as well as opening new roles aligned with our business priorities and growth strategy,” said U.S. Walmart CEO John Furner and Walmart Global CTO Suresh Kumar.

While these changes coincide with the recent news of Walmart raising its prices due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, the layoffs are not related to the tariffs. Instead, they reflect the company’s broader focus on driving efficiency and modernizing its operations.

    Details of the Layoffs

Approximately 1,500 employees will be affected by the restructuring, with roles within Walmart’s Global Tech and Walmart Connect, the company’s in-house advertising arms, among the most impacted. The changes primarily target Walmart’s End-to-End Operations teams, which are essential in serving customers effectively.

    Location of the Layoffs

The layoffs will primarily impact employees at Walmart’s headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as some other locations. Walmart has not provided further comments on the layoffs as of May 22, according to a statement from the company.
