Next-Gen Foldable May Finally Break the 4,400mAh Ceiling
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 earned its place among the best foldable phones of 2025 thanks to its innovative design and refined build quality. However, its 4,400mAh battery—unchanged since the Z Fold 3—and the removal of S Pen support left some fans disappointed. New leaks suggest that Samsung may be addressing both of these concerns with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8.
According to Dealsite (via Jukanlosreve on X), the next-generation foldable could feature a battery capacity of over 5,000mAh. That would mark the first significant increase in power since the series debuted, providing a major boost to longevity and daily usability.
A Potential Shift in Samsung’s Battery Strategy
If true, this would represent a rare move for Samsung, which has maintained consistent battery capacities across its flagship lines for years. The Galaxy Z Fold series has remained at 4,400mAh since 2021, while the company’s Ultra smartphones have stayed fixed at 5,000mAh since the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Still, 2025 has already seen a few surprising capacity increases: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 jumped from 4,000mAh to 4,300mAh, and the Galaxy S25 FE rose from 4,500mAh to 4,900mAh. These upgrades hint that Samsung might be open to pushing battery innovation further for its flagship foldable.
Analysts note that a larger battery would not only improve endurance but could also enhance thermal performance and overall efficiency, helping the Fold 8 compete more effectively with rival foldables from Huawei and Honor.
Rumored Return of S Pen and Display Improvements
Beyond the potential battery jump, reports suggest that Samsung could restore S Pen support with the Fold 8. The feature was removed from the Fold 7 after Samsung opted to eliminate the digitizer layer to achieve a thinner and lighter design. A reintroduction of stylus capability could make the Fold 8 a more compelling device for productivity users and digital artists.
Additionally, the Fold 8 is rumored to feature a reduced display crease thanks to the use of laser-drilled metal plate technology—a new structural approach also reportedly being adopted by Apple for its first foldable iPhone. This could make the internal screen appear smoother and more durable than previous generations.
Outlook: Incremental or Transformational?
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 delivered strong sales growth for Samsung in 2025, driven by its slim profile and design refinements. To maintain that momentum, the company may need to offer more than aesthetic improvements. If the Fold 8 delivers both a larger battery and the return of S Pen functionality, it could set a new benchmark for the foldable market heading into 2026.
Until Samsung confirms these details, fans will remain cautiously optimistic. But one thing is certain: expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 are higher than ever.
