The first early details about Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series are starting to emerge, and they suggest a clearer split between the upcoming flagship models. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to bring only modest camera changes, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could mark a more meaningful leap in imaging hardware.

According to early leaks, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a new primary camera sensor, signaling Samsung’s intention to refresh its camera strategy after several generations of incremental updates.

    New 200MP ISOCELL HP6 sensor

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to use Samsung’s ISOCELL HP6 sensor for its main camera. The sensor is reportedly a 200-megapixel unit with a 1/1.3-inch optical format, placing it in the same size class as the ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Despite similar physical dimensions, the new sensor is expected to incorporate updated technologies that could deliver improvements in image processing, low-light performance, and video quality. These refinements may allow Samsung to extract better results without dramatically increasing sensor size.

    Additional camera upgrades under consideration

Samsung is also rumored to be planning upgrades beyond the primary sensor. The ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to receive improvements, addressing an area that has seen limited advancement in recent models.

The mid-range telephoto camera could also be due for a significant update. The Galaxy S26 Ultra currently relies on a 10MP or 12MP sensor with 3x optical zoom, and leaks suggest Samsung may move to a higher-resolution option, potentially 50MP or even 200MP.

Other features reportedly being explored include support for 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, a larger sensor for the 5x optical zoom camera, and a square front-facing sensor to improve selfie image quality.

    Biometrics and design changes

Beyond cameras, Samsung may introduce new biometric capabilities with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Reports suggest the company could adopt 3D face scanning using Metalenz’s Polar ID system, powered by Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensor.

There is also speculation that Samsung could remove the built-in S Pen starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra, signaling a potential shift in the Ultra lineup’s design philosophy.

While these details remain unofficial, they indicate that Samsung is preparing a more substantial hardware refresh for the Galaxy S27 Ultra after a relatively restrained update cycle.
