Warrant served at Fulton County elections office
The FBI served a warrant Wednesday at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center in Georgia as part of a Justice Department investigation into alleged voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
According to county officials, federal agents began collecting hundreds of boxes of ballots from the facility in Union City, near Atlanta. Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory said the warrant covered all ballots from the 2020 election, with roughly 700 boxes being removed from the site.
FBI personnel on scene confirmed the materials would be transported to the FBI Central Records Complex in Virginia for further examination.
Longstanding focus of election fraud claims
Fulton County has been a focal point of President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the 2020 election was stolen, allegations that were previously rejected by courts, state officials, and federal investigators.
The Justice Department has already sued Fulton County officials in an effort to obtain election records, including ballots, ballot stubs, and absentee ballot signature envelopes. A judge has not yet ruled in that civil case.
County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts said that while the ballots had been secure under county control, their removal meant local officials could no longer personally assure the public of their custody.
Senior officials observed at the scene
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey were both seen at the Fulton County facility. A senior administration official said Gabbard’s presence was tied to her role in election security and protecting voting infrastructure from interference.
Her involvement marks a shift from the post-2020 period, when senior intelligence officials resisted pressure to investigate unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud.
History of audits and legal challenges
Georgia conducted a full risk-limiting audit of the 2020 election, including a manual recount of all ballots. State officials at the time said the audit confirmed the accuracy of the results and the reliability of Georgia’s paper ballot system.
Trump and several allies were later charged in Georgia over efforts to overturn the election results, though the case was eventually dropped. Biden’s victory in the state was certified and upheld.
Political backlash and ongoing investigations
Democratic leaders in Georgia condemned the FBI action, accusing the administration of using federal law enforcement to revive baseless claims about the 2020 election. Some linked the move to broader disputes between the administration and state officials over voter rolls and election oversight.
The Justice Department has also filed lawsuits against multiple states seeking access to non-public voter roll information. The FBI said its investigation in Fulton County remains ongoing and declined to provide further details.
