The Manhattan Theatre Club has proudly unveiled the full lineup for the highly anticipated Broadway premiere of “Mary Jane,” which is set to grace the stage at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre starting April 2, 2024. This groundbreaking production, penned by the distinguished Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog, known for her works such as “A Doll’s House” and “4000 Miles,” shines a spotlight on the talented Rachel McAdams in the lead role. Under the skillful direction of Anne Kauffman, whose credits include “The Sign in Sydney Brustein’s Window,” this ensemble is poised to captivate audiences with a story of unwavering strength and the power of community.

Rachel McAdams, celebrated for her depth and versatility, embodies the character of Mary Jane, a single mother navigating the tumultuous waters of an impossible family dynamic. With her indomitable spirit and a touch of humour, Mary Jane leans on the wisdom and support of the women in her life, forming a bond akin to family. The New York Times lauded this resilience narrative as “the most profound of Herzog’s many fine plays,” while The New Yorker commends it as “beautiful and remarkable… Herzog has made theatre that shines.”

The stellar cast joining McAdams includes April Matthis, Susan Pourfar, Lily Santiago, and Brenda Wehle, each bringing their unique talent to the vibrant tapestry of the show. The creative force behind the scenes comprises Lael Jellinek (Set Design), Brenda Abbandandolo (Costume Design), Ben Stanton (Lighting Design), and Leah Gelpe (Sound Design), among others, ensuring a visually and aurally immersive experience.

As “Mary Jane” embarks on its journey, it not only highlights the story of one woman’s tenacious spirit but also celebrates the enduring legacy of Lynne Meadow, marking her 50th year as Artistic Director of Manhattan Theatre Club. This production, embodying the club’s mission to foster new, innovative works, stands as a testament to the transformative power of theatre.

“Mary Jane” promises to be a beacon of hope and strength, showcasing the resilience of the human spirit. With its compelling narrative, stellar cast, and creative prowess, this production is poised to be a memorable addition to the Broadway season. As the curtains rise this April, audiences are invited to witness a story of hope, humour, and the unbreakable bonds that sustain us through life’s most challenging moments.
