The Muppets’ Leading Diva to Finally Get Her Own Film

Miss Piggy is heading to the big screen for her first-ever solo movie, with Hollywood stars Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone teaming up to produce the project. The film will center on the beloved Muppets icon, known for her dramatic flair, signature pink wardrobe, and complicated romance with Kermit the Frog.

Lawrence revealed the news during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, saying, “I don’t know if I can announce this but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie.” The actress confirmed that Cole Escola, the award-winning playwright behind Broadway’s hit comedy Oh, Mary!, is writing the script.

Lawrence and Stone Join Forces for the First Time

Despite their long friendship and shared success in Hollywood, Lawrence and Stone have never appeared in a film together. “It’s like really dark that we haven’t done a movie together,” Lawrence joked. The Miss Piggy project will mark their first professional collaboration, with both taking an active role in shaping the film.

Lawrence later expanded on the project during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She recalled that the idea first came up during the pandemic lockdown when she and a friend imagined a “darkly funny” storyline in which Miss Piggy faces cancellation. Although that won’t be the film’s main plot, Lawrence said the concept “got the wheels turning” for a modern, self-aware take on the character.

Describing Miss Piggy as a “feminist icon,” Lawrence praised her enduring appeal as both glamorous and unapologetically confident. She added that Stone is the “Muppet head” of the pair, while she considers herself “the ideas guy.”

    Reimagining a Pop Culture Icon

Miss Piggy first appeared as a supporting character on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s but quickly became the breakout star thanks to her charisma, attitude, and comic timing. Over the decades, she has appeared in numerous Muppet films and television specials, often alongside her long-time love interest, Kermit the Frog.

The new movie aims to reintroduce Miss Piggy to a new generation while celebrating her legacy as a bold, self-made star. Although no plot or release date has been announced, fans are already speculating whether Kermit and other classic Muppet characters will make appearances.

The Muppets’ 50th Anniversary Adds to the Excitement

The announcement comes as The Muppet Show prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. Disney, which owns The Muppets franchise, recently confirmed a one-off anniversary special featuring U.S. pop star Sabrina Carpenter. The special will see the original gang return to the Muppet Theatre for “a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos.”

With two of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actresses behind the new Miss Piggy film and a talented playwright crafting the story, the project promises to blend humor, nostalgia, and modern themes. For fans of the world’s most glamorous puppet, the spotlight has never shone brighter.
