Shipley in critical but stable condition
Former Texas Longhorns standout Jordan Shipley is in critical but stable condition after suffering severe burns in an accident on his ranch near Burnet, Texas. According to a statement released by the University of Texas athletic department, the incident occurred Tuesday while Shipley was operating machinery that caught fire.
Shipley was initially taken to a local hospital by a ranch worker before being airlifted to a medical facility in Austin, where he remained hospitalized Tuesday night. His family described the burns as severe but said his condition is stable.
A decorated career at Texas and in the NFL
Shipley, 40, was one of the most accomplished receivers in Texas football history. He starred for the Longhorns from 2006 to 2009 as both a wide receiver and kick returner, earning two All-American selections. He still holds several single-season records at Texas, including receptions and receiving yards, and remains the program’s all-time leader in catches.
After college, Shipley was selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He recorded 52 receptions for 600 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie and later spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars before retiring in 2014.
Nebraska Lands UNLV Transfer Quarterback Anthony Colandrea
Cornhuskers move quickly in transfer portal
Nebraska has secured a commitment from UNLV transfer quarterback Anthony Colandrea, addressing a sudden need at the position after a recent decommitment. Colandrea, one of the most productive quarterbacks available in the transfer portal, committed following an official visit on Tuesday.
The junior ranked among the national leaders in total offense this season, throwing for 3,459 yards while adding 649 rushing yards and accounting for 33 total touchdowns. He led UNLV to a 10-win season and a Mountain West championship game appearance.
Experience and production drive Nebraska’s decision
Colandrea has started 32 games at the college level and has one year of eligibility remaining. He began his career at Virginia, where he broke several freshman passing records, before transferring to UNLV for the 2025 season. His combination of experience, mobility and efficiency made him a priority target for Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers turned their attention to Colandrea after losing a previous quarterback commitment and following the transfer departure of their recent starter. Nebraska finished the season 7–6, ending the year with a bowl loss, and is looking to stabilize the position heading into next season.
