    Ground game dominates Baltimore

The Detroit Lions delivered a statement win on Monday night, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 38-30 in a contest defined by sheer power on the ground. Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns, propelling Detroit to victory. Quarterback Jared Goff described the duo as a “pick your poison” backfield, praising their ability to stay fresh and execute in all facets of the game.

    Montgomery’s explosive night

Montgomery stole the spotlight with a career-best 151 yards on just 12 carries, including a 72-yard burst and a 31-yard touchdown run that sealed the win in the fourth quarter. He also capped an 18-play, 98-yard drive with a short score that consumed nearly 11 minutes of game time. “That’s Detroit Lions football,” Montgomery said postgame, highlighting the team’s commitment to controlling possession against a dangerous Ravens offense.

    Gibbs adds balance and creativity

Complementing Montgomery’s explosiveness, Gibbs contributed 67 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while adding 32 yards on five receptions. One of his scores came on a trick play involving wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, underscoring the creativity of Detroit’s offensive scheme. Gibbs emphasized the role of the offensive line and the depth of the running back room, calling the performance no surprise given the talent surrounding him.

    Historical significance

The duo’s dominance was not just impressive but historic. Monday marked the 11th time Montgomery and Gibbs both scored rushing touchdowns in the same game, setting an NFL record. It also made them the first Lions teammates since Hall of Famer Dutch Clark and Ernie Caddell in 1936 to each post multiple rushing touchdowns in a single game. Detroit’s 224 rushing yards on the night dwarfed Baltimore’s 85, showcasing a backfield capable of rewriting the franchise’s history books.
