Team Announces Leadership Change Amid Push for Improvement
The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday that general manager Chris Grier and the organization have mutually agreed to part ways after more than two decades of service. Grier, who has been with the team for 26 years and served as general manager since 2016, departs as the franchise looks to reset its direction following another disappointing season.
Team chairman and managing general partner Stephen M. Ross confirmed the move in an official statement, emphasizing the need for immediate change and a renewed commitment to building a championship-caliber team. “This morning, I made the decision along with general manager Chris Grier to mutually part ways,” Ross said. “I have incredible respect for Chris and his family, and I want to thank him for his many contributions to the Miami Dolphins over the past 26 years.”
Champ Kelly Named Interim General Manager
Ross announced that Champ Kelly will serve as interim general manager effective immediately. Kelly, who joined the Dolphins’ front office earlier this year, will oversee personnel decisions as the organization begins its formal search for a permanent replacement. “I want to thank Champ for stepping up and his commitment to the Dolphins’ success this season,” Ross added. “There is a lot of football left to play, and we all need to fight even harder.”
The decision comes as the Dolphins attempt to recover from inconsistent performances throughout the 2025 season, which have left them short of expectations in both the AFC East standings and postseason contention. Sources close to the team indicate the move is part of a larger effort to overhaul the football operations department and modernize team-building strategies heading into 2026.
Ross Pledges Renewed Commitment to Winning
In his statement, Ross acknowledged the organization’s shortcomings while reaffirming his dedication to building a competitive, championship-contending roster. “Our performance on the field and our team-building process have not been good enough. There are no excuses,” he said. “I want to thank the fans for their continued support and passion for this team. You deserve a championship-caliber team you can be proud of.”
Ross concluded by emphasizing that the Dolphins’ leadership will evaluate all areas of the football operation before making long-term decisions. “There’s much work ahead to return the Dolphins to sustained success, and that work begins now — finishing the season strong, evaluating all areas of our football operation, and moving forward with a clear vision for the future,” he stated.
