Smarter object masking arrives in Premiere
Adobe has announced a new wave of updates for Premiere Pro aimed at accelerating common video editing workflows. The headline feature is an AI powered Object Mask tool that allows editors to quickly select and track people or moving objects inside a clip. By simply hovering over a subject and clicking, users can generate a mask overlay within seconds.
The mask is designed to be accurate from the start, but editors can manually resize or refine it if needed. Adobe says the feature runs entirely on device using its own AI model and does not use customer content or activity data for training purposes.
Faster and more precise shape masking
Premiere’s existing Shape Mask tools have also received a significant upgrade. Editors can now create Ellipse, Rectangle and Pen masks directly from the toolbar, streamlining access during editing sessions. Mask controls have been redesigned to allow more precise movement and adjustment.
According to Adobe, the updated masks can track objects up to 20 times faster than before, reducing wait times and making it easier to work on longer or more complex clips without constantly monitoring progress.
Deeper integration with Firefly and Adobe Stock
The update also improves how media flows into Premiere from other Adobe platforms. Users can now bring content directly from Firefly Boards, Adobe’s AI powered digital canvas, into their Premiere projects. In addition, Adobe Stock is now fully integrated within Premiere, allowing editors to search, preview and use stock assets without leaving the application.
After Effects gains new 3D and SVG capabilities
Adobe is also rolling out notable updates to After Effects. The visual effects software now supports importing SVG files, a format commonly used in Illustrator for scalable graphics. This makes it easier to move design assets into motion projects without conversion steps.
After Effects users can also create graphics and photorealistic objects using new 3D parametric meshes. These include basic shapes such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, toris and planes, enabling faster construction of three dimensional elements directly inside compositions.
Focus on speed and efficiency
Across both Premiere and After Effects, Adobe’s latest updates emphasize speed, tighter integration and practical AI features rather than fully automated editing. The company positions these tools as ways to reduce repetitive tasks while keeping creative control firmly in the hands of editors.
