Google Tightens Free Limits on Nano Banana Pro and Gemini 3 Pro

    Image Generation Caps Reduced

Google has quietly restricted the number of free daily image generations available in its Nano Banana Pro model, just as users were preparing to test the tool over the long holiday weekend. According to a newly updated support document, free users can now generate only two images per day, down from the previous limit of three. The company says demand has surged and that “limits may change frequently and will reset daily,” signaling that caps could fluctuate as Google manages server load.

Nano Banana Pro — part of Google’s expanding suite of AI image tools — has quickly grown in popularity thanks to its ability to create and edit visuals with impressive precision. The reduced cap means free users will need to be more selective about how they use their daily generations.

    Gemini 3 Pro Also Affected

Limits aren’t confined to image tools. Google is also tightening access to Gemini 3 Pro for non-paying users. The same support document now describes access as “basic,” with daily limits subject to change. When Gemini 3 Pro began rolling out on November 18, Google guaranteed five free prompts per day — mirroring the structure of Gemini 2.5 Pro. That minimum guarantee has now disappeared.

Users subscribed to the Google AI Pro or AI Ultra plans are unaffected. Their daily prompt limits remain at 100 and 500, respectively, maintaining full access amid the new restrictions.

    High Demand Driving Policy Changes

Google’s adjustments echo moves by other AI companies facing rapid adoption. OpenAI, for example, delayed the rollout of its image generator inside ChatGPT for free users earlier this year after usage far exceeded expectations. While OpenAI ultimately restored access, the delay highlighted how quickly demand for generative AI can strain system capacity.

Google appears to be navigating a similar situation as its growing user base stresses infrastructure. The company signaled that these limits are not final, leaving the door open for further adjustments as usage patterns evolve.
