The music and film worlds are excited as StudioCanal and Monumental Pictures release the first teaser trailer for “Back to Black,” a biopic that pays homage to the late British soul music sensation Amy Winehouse. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, known for her work on “Nowhere Boy” and “50 Shades of Grey,” the film promises an intimate look into the iconic singer’s life, portrayed by the rising British star Marisa Abela.

“Back to Black” is set to premiere in the UK and Ireland on April 12, with a US release by Focus Features on May 10. The film has garnered significant attention for its star-studded cast and authentic portrayal of Winehouse’s life, supported by the Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music Group, and Sony Music Publishing. The inclusion of Winehouse’s hit songs in the soundtrack is anticipated to be a highlight, featuring classics like “Rehab,” “Valerie,” and the titular “Back to Black.”

The narrative of “Back to Black” delves into Winehouse’s formative years, her meteoric rise to international fame, and the making of her seminal album. The film also aims to address the challenges she faced, including her battles with addiction and the pressures of fame, which ultimately led to her tragic death at the age of 27 due to an accidental alcohol overdose.

Marisa Abela’s portrayal of Winehouse is complemented by a talented supporting cast, including Jack O’Connell as Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse’s ex-husband, and notable actors Eddie Marsan and Juliet Cowan playing the roles of Winehouse’s parents. The inclusion of Lesley Manville as Winehouse’s grandmother adds depth to the family dynamic depicted in the film.

Produced by Alison Owen and Debra Hayward for Monumental Pictures, along with Nicky Kentish-Barnes, and with Taylor-Johnson serving as an executive producer, “Back to Black” is a testament to Winehouse’s enduring influence on music and culture. The film is a biographical account and a celebration of her talent, showcasing why Winehouse remains an unforgettable figure in the music industry.

“Back to Black” is a poignant reminder of Amy Winehouse’s remarkable talent and tumultuous life. As audiences await the film’s release, the teaser trailer offers a glimpse into what promises to be a compelling tribute to a music icon whose legacy continues to inspire.
