Character actor known for iconic villain roles
Actor Peter Greene, best known for portraying memorable villains in films such as Pulp Fiction and The Mask, has died at the age of 60. Greene was found dead in his New York City apartment on Friday, according to his manager and longtime friend Gregg Edwards.
No cause of death has been released. NPR confirmed the news through Edwards, who described Greene as one of the most talented character actors of his generation.
Breakout performances in the 1990s
Greene became widely recognized in 1994 with two contrasting but equally striking performances. He played Dorian Tyrell, the flamboyant and menacing antagonist opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask, and appeared the same year in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction as a ruthless security guard.
His tall, angular presence and intense delivery made him a natural fit for antagonistic roles, often blending menace with dark humor.
Extensive film and television career
Following his early success, Greene worked steadily across film and television for decades. His credits include Judgment Night, Blue Streak, Training Day, an episode of Law & Order in 2001, and most recently an appearance in The Continental, the John Wick prequel series, in 2023.
At the time of his death, Greene was preparing to co-narrate the documentary From the American People: The Withdrawal of USAID, alongside Jason Alexander and Kathleen Turner. He was also set to begin filming Mascots, an upcoming thriller directed by Mickey Rourke.

Mickey Rourke shared a portrait of Greene on Instagram accompanied by a prayer emoji. Gregg Edwards called Greene “one of the most brilliant character actors on the planet,” adding that he was deeply committed to his creative projects.
Personal struggles and later years
Born in New Jersey in 1965, Greene began pursuing acting in his twenties and landed his first film role in Laws of Gravity in 1992, alongside Edie Falco.
He struggled with drug addiction for much of his adult life, but Edwards said Greene had been sober for at least the past two years. He described the actor as loyal and deeply passionate, though sometimes prone to conspiracy thinking.
